AI is Coming – Ready or not?

I’ve been really holding off on addressing AI

Mostly because I still don’t feel truly educated or insightful enough to help anyone with my stream of conscious about it.

However, a few days ago, my dear father (a retired microbiologist turned small business owner), asked me point blank…”Isn’t your job the type that’s getting replaced with AI”? “Does that worry you?”

Now, my father really doesnt know what I do…recruiting/“HR” is about as clear as he is on my profession. That said- his question really got me thinking that if he’s asking- I need to establish more of action plan on this for the long term.

So without full clarity on how this is going to impact us all, here is what I know and what I can advise…

1: It’s moving fast. This isn’t like waiting for your company to adopt a new multimillion dollar system (and knowing you have time before they catch on or before your job is obsolete)….its hitting us all at a rapid pace.

2: HR and Talent IS an easy target. Were pure overhead for any company. AI can replace nearly every function of HR (be real). The new mobley/workday class action may set a precident for how our more regulated functions are administered (like recruiting), but any purely admin role or support role- likely obsolete with AI very soon. Its a matter of when not IF your company will take that leap for the shareholders.

So what do you do….

1: be honest with the fact that were all replaceable.

2: Pick an industry that buys you some time. Think manufacturing, “old school”, and late adopters – not pioneer/tech companies. They might have all the perks now- but they’ll be the first adopters of AI – pick your poison.

3: Diversify your skills…. Diversify your income- now. Side hustles are key.
Real estate, social media, consulting, investing. Get creative and uncomfortable so that you never have to panic if that day comes.

We can ride this wave 💪🏻
